Step 1: Installation for Windows

Installing Finale is typically easy and automatic, accomplished by following the directions displayed during the installation process. However, if you do have trouble installing, use the following procedure to resolve the most common installation problems.

Before you begin installing Finale, make sure there’s enough room on your hard disk to hold the program and its associated files. For a full installation, you’ll need about 600MB of free space on your hard disk. An additional 2GB is required for all the Garritan sounds. You should also bear in mind that, like many other software programs, Finale creates and makes use of “temporary files” during its normal operations, which it then deletes from your hard disk when you exit the program. We recommend having an additional 10MB of free disk space for these files.

ヒント: If you have a previous version of Finale installed on your computer, you do not need to uninstall it prior to installing the new version. In fact, if you want to migrate particular settings or configuration files from the previous version as listed in step 8 below, you must not uninstall the previous version before the new version is installed.

Because some virus detection programs can prevent certain files from installing properly, we recommend you temporarily disable anti-virus programs. Rest assured, your Finale disc or download does not contain any viruses. If you are installing on Windows 7, make sure you are logged in as the System Administrator and reboot after installation.

The Installer sets up a folder called “Finale” for the Finale program and its associated files and folders. Do not alter this setup.

  1. Insert the USB flash drive into an available USB port on your computer or locate and open your Downloads folder.

If you have downloaded Finale, click and drag the FinaleSetup.zip folder to your Desktop.

  2. Right-click the FinaleSetup.zip folder and select Extract All. The Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders dialog box appears.

If you have opened FinaleSetup.zip folder without extracting the items, close the folder window first.

  3. Your Desktop is chosen by default as the location for the extracted files. Use this location.

If your Desktop is not listed, click Browse. The Select a destination dialog box appears.

Select your Desktop and click OK. Your Desktop will now be listed as the location for the extracted files.

  4. Click Extract. A FinaleSetup folder appears.

If the FinaleSetup folder does not appear. Double-click the FinaleSetup folder without a .zip extension on your desktop.

  5. Within the Finale Setup folder, double-click the FinaleSetup.exe. The Finale Bundle Installer Setup Wizard appears.

Do not move or try to open the 2 .bin files. They are resource files for the installer to use and need to be in the same folder as the installer.

  6. Follow the instructions in the Finale Bundle Installer Setup Wizard until the installation is complete.

There are three parts to the Finale Bundle Installer: the Finale Setup Wizard, the Garritan ARIA Player Setup Wizard, and the Garritan Instruments for Finale Setup Wizard. The Finale Installer lets you select which files you want installed and where you want them placed on your hard disk. The Installer offers to create a folder called “Finale”. We recommend that you install all of the Finale files into this new folder. For the most part, you can click Next to confirm each screen’s defaults.

  7. If you are using a USB, remove the USB flash drive from the USB port and store it in a safe place! If anything happens to your hard disk, you can reinstall Finale from your original USB flash drive or by downloading the installer from your MakeMusic Account.
  8. If you want to migrate particular settings or configuration files from a previously-installed version of Finale, follow the steps at To migrate settings and support files from one version of Finale to another.
  9. If you run into any issues, submit a support ticket to our Customer Success Team at www.finalemusic.com/support/contact-us/.
