Step 1: Downloading and installing Finale

If you have a previous version of Finale installed on your computer, you do not need to uninstall it before installing the new version. If you want to migrate particular settings or configuration files from the previous version, you must not uninstall the previous version before the new version is installed.

Before you begin installing Finale, make sure that you meet the system requirements.

Because some virus detection programs can prevent certain files from installing properly, we recommend you temporarily disable anti-virus programs. Rest assured, your Finale download does not contain any viruses. If you are installing on Windows, make sure you are logged in as the System Administrator and reboot after installation.

To download and install Finale

  1. Download the Finale installer from your www.makemusic.com account.

By default, this should be downloaded to your Downloads folder unless specified otherwise.

  2. Right-click the FinaleSetup.zip folder and select Extract All. The Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders dialog box appears.

Your Downloads folder is chosen by default as the location for the extracted files. Use this location. If you have opened the FinaleSetup.zip folder without extracting the items, close the folder window first.

  3. Click Extract. The FinaleSetup folder appears.

If the FinaleSetup folder does not appear, double-click the FinaleSetup folder without a .zip extension. Do not move or try to open the 2 .bin files. They are resource files for the installer to use and need to be in the same folder as the installer.

  4. Double click the FinaleSetup.exe file to launch the Finale Bundle Installer Setup Wizard.
  5. Follow the instructions in the Finale Bundle Installer Setup Wizard until the installation is complete.

There are four parts to the Finale Bundle Installer: the Finale v25 Uninstaller, the Finale Setup Wizard, the Garritan ARIA Player Setup Wizard, and the Garritan Instruments for Finale Setup Wizard. The Finale Installer lets you select which files you want to be installed and where you want them placed on your hard disk. The Installer sets up a folder called Finale for the Finale program and its associated files and folders. Do not alter this setup. For the most part, you can click Next to confirm each screen’s defaults.

  6. If you have a MIDI device that you would like to use with Finale, see Step 2: Setting up your MIDI system (optional) before launching Finale. If not, see Step 3: Launching and authorizing Finale. If you run into any issues, you can submit a support ticket to our Customer Success Team at www.finalemusic.com/support/contact-us/.
